Expique · Thonburi, Old Town and Chinatown

Markets, temples and food by tuk tuk

An evening tuk tuk tour from the Thonburi bank through a local market, the lit grounds of Wat Prayoon, the flower market and the Old Town, ending with dessert in Chinatown. Pick it for a first night: you cover far more ground than on foot, and dinner is part of the route.

Markets, Temples & Food Night Tour by Tuk Tuk

About this experience

Expique calls this a cultural tour with food rather than a full food tour, and that is the right way to read it. You ride two to a tuk tuk, stop at a local market for snacks, walk the grounds of Wat Prayoon, pass through the night markets and Pak Khlong Talat flower market, loop past the Giant Swing and the Rattanakosin sights, sit down for a restaurant meal and finish with dessert in Chinatown. The listing gives 2 to 4 hours depending on the option; the operator also runs a shorter version without the food.

Two things to know before you book. The temple stop is Wat Prayoon, not Wat Arun or Wat Pho. Those two close in the early evening (Wat Pho at 18:30, Wat Arun around 17:30, per the Tourism Authority of Thailand), and the Reclining Buddha is not on this route. At Wat Prayoon you walk lit grounds; the buildings may be shut. The flower market is open around the clock, but its wholesale rush comes before dawn, so in the evening you see the calmer side: garlands, sacks of marigolds and a few florists at work.

The join-in group tops out at 12, with a minimum age of 10, and private groups are possible. It does not suit anyone with limited mobility: you climb in and out of a tuk tuk at every stop and walk 20 to 30 minutes through the markets. Open tuk tuks are hot and loud, and you breathe traffic fumes at the lights. The operator says so itself. Most people love it anyway.

How the day runs

  1. Around 6 p.m.Meet in Thonburi

The operator's own site names Krung Thonburi BTS station, with join-in starts from about 6 p.m. Your booking confirms the spot for your option.

  2. First stopA local market

Street snacks and a short walk between the stalls while the guide explains what you are eating.

  3. After darkWat Prayoon

The temple grounds and the big white chedi, lit for the night. The buildings may be closed, so this is an outdoor stop.

  4. Mid-tourFlower market and Old Town

Garland stalls at Pak Khlong Talat and the night markets, then a ride past the Giant Swing and Rattanakosin Island.

  5. DinnerA restaurant meal

A sit-down main course. The operator says it is often a well-known spot, possibly Thip Samai for pad thai, but makes no promise.

  6. Last stopDessert in Chinatown

Something sweet in Chinatown to finish. The GetYourGuide listing does not include hotel transfers, so plan your ride back.
